Rain in Kolkata

The rainy spell of Kolkata has been witnessing an up and down trend. While, the other parts of West Bengal have managed to light to isolated moderate showers, Kolkata rains seems to have curtailed down. But on and off rains did not stop occurring over the capital of West Bengal.

In fact, at present also, Kolkata is witnessing rains. Though due to the absence of any significant weather system, these rains will not be for a longer duration and will cover a limited area.

In the last 24 hours also, a few isolated regions of West Bengal received rains. Within the span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Thursday, Jalpaiguri recorded heavy spells of 83 mm, Malda 44.2 mm and Coochbehar witnessed 26 mm of rains.

These rains can be attributed to a trough which is extending from East Bihar to North Bay of Bengal across Gangetic West Bengal that is why scattered rain and thundershowers are possible over the city and adjoining districts.

As per Skymet Weather, apart from this weather system, no other significant weather system prevails and thus heavy to very heavy rains are not expected over the city of Joy but localized rains due to the development of convective clouds may occur for a short duration. These rains will mainly occur during late afternoon and evening hours.

The weather is expected to remain warm and humid and the sky will also remain partly cloudy to cloudy. Though, occasionally, it may become overcast for a short duration as well.

As against the monthly mean of 318.1 mm, Kolkata has managed to record 108 mm of rains only. Thus, the city has a long way to go in order to be able to surpass its monthly target.
