Skymet Weather has constantly been updating its readers and viewers on the change in the weather in Delhi and North India in terms of rainfall and temperatures. According to the latest weather update by Skymet’s Meteorological Division, rain in Amritsar and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir has already begun and is also expected in Delhi soon.

The dry weather in Punjab and the hills of Jammu and Kashmir has turned wet and rainy in the last 24 hours due to a strong and fresh weather system, called the Western Disturbance. Till yesterday, the Western Disturbance was over Afghanistan and adjoining Pakistan but now it will affect the weather in entire North India till the 12th of March.

While rain is expected to occur again tonight in both the states, it will be more confined to the cities along the foothills, such as Dehradun, Chandigarh, Pathankot and Dharamshala.

Capital city Delhi is expected to witness some showers tomorrow morning, which could make commuting slightly troublesome in the morning, owing to traffic jams. Weathermen inform us that the state of Haryana will also start receiving rain from tomorrow onwards.

While rain could be moderate in Delhi and adjoining states, they could be heavy in the hilly regions.

The rain belt will gradually shift towards west Uttar Pradesh and will also affect the weather in Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha and Madhya Maharashtra on the 11th of March.

“Chances of rain and hailstorm in North India cannot be ruled out. There are chances of a thunderstorm as well as hail in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, on 11th and 12thMarch”, talks a senior from Skymet’s Meteorological Division.

Thunderstorms in this already wet month of March have severely affected wheat crop in Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh including rapeseed in Rajasthan.
