Kolkata has been experiencing above normal temperatures for the past few days. The city is located near the headway of West Bengal. Therefore, humidity also remains on the higher side leading to increase in discomfort levels.

However, today, there are slight chances of light rains in the city of Joy. In fact, thunderclouds have already developed over Kolkata. Thus, rain and thundershowers may commence soon. Thereafter, weather become dry again.
Around March 16, the weather of Kolkata is expected to become cloudy. Isolated rains are also possible leading to significant drop in day temperatures to the tune of 4-5 degrees. However, this relief will be short lived only and temperatures will once again head north around March 19.
During the month of March, rains start to pick up pace as Pre Monsoon resumes. However, we expect Pre Monsoon rains to commence in the true sense around month end only. The state of West Bengal on the whole and parts of Jharkhand as well as Odisha are notorious for violent thunderstorms but Kolkata being adjacent to coastal areas remains relatively calm.
Although, intense thundershowers occur during the Pre-Monsoon season in the month of April and May but they still are not as fierce as the interior parts inclusive of the Chhotanagpur region.
