Rain and thundershowers in Andhra Pradesh

April 27, 2015 4:12 PM | Skymet Weather Team

The state of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and the surrounding Vidarbha region have been experiencing scattered light to moderate rain and thundershowers during the last 24 hours. Some of the places which have recorded light to moderate rainfall are: Ramagundam 15 mm, Ongole 4.5 mm, Machilipatnam 1.6 mm, and Kalingapatnam 1.2 mm.

There is a trough running from Jharkhand all the way to interior Tamil Nadu. This trough runs across Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha and Telangana. This trough is what is causing the weather over the region. There is anti-cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal, due to this warm and humid winds from the southwest direction are reaching over Coastal Andhra Pradesh. This is also aiding in the rain and thundershower activity over the region. As a result, more rain and thundershowers are expected over North coastal Andhra Pradesh, adjoining south Chhattisgarh and south coastal Odisha during the next 24 to 48 hours. Thereafter, the weather will go dry over the region due to cut off of moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal. This will result in a gradual increase in temperatures over the region.
