In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Saturday, light to moderate rain with thundershower activity occured at many places over the state of Tamil Nadu. The reason for these rains can be attributed to the presence of an easterly Trough which is now moving away westwards from the Comorin and Tamil Nadu region.
Since northeasterly and easterly winds are prevailing over the state, the nature of these winds are warm and moist. Therefore, light rain and thundershower would be affecting at scattered places over Tamil Nadu, adjoining parts of Kerala and Rayalseema.
These weather conditions are likely to continue during the next two to three days. Places such as Nagapattinam, Puducherry, Coimbatore, Chennai, Dharampuri, Kanyakumari, Madurai, Salem, and Karaikal may experience rainfall and thundershower activities.
The continuation of this rainfall would be very beneficial for crops like sugarcane, groundnut, paddy, and coconut. These rains will also improve groundwater levels.
In the upper troposphere, the ridge is persisting due to which the easterly winds are continuously blowing over the region. Hence, a spell of rain and thundershower would be affecting during the next two to three days. Though the intensity of the rains would be less. The day temperatures will also be decreasing due to the occurrence of these rains.
