February 28, 2017 12:48 PM | Skymet Weather Team

It seems rain and snow have refused to take back seat over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. All thanks to back to back Western Disturbances affecting Western Himalayas.

At present also, a Western Disturbance has started affecting the region ans is now seen over North Pakistan and adjoining Jammu and Kashmir.

Skymet Weather predicts that the system is likely to move in a northeast direction and thus, the hills of North India including Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir may get to see some rain and thundershower activities in the next 24 hours. However, snowfall will confined to the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir.

Moreover, Uttarakhand will also brace for light to moderate showers. The lower levels of these hilly regions are also expected to witness hailstorm activities.

This approaching spell is likely to continue for the next 48 hours, thereafter, the intensity of rain and snow is likely to reduce.

The northern hills of the country have witnessed a good amount of rain and snow during the months of January and February. These rainy and snowy spells can be attributed to several active Western Disturbances affecting the hilly regions.

During February, heavy rain and snow lashed the northern hills engulfing the famous hill stations of North India like Srinagar, Manali, Nainital and Shimla. Although, after the passage of the weather system, the weather across the northern hills became clear soon with bright sunny days showing up as well.
