Winter season ended on a surplus note for Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. According to the rainfall data available with Skymet, Uttarakhand was largely excess by almost 90%, followed by J&K at 68% and Himachal Pradesh at 43%.
The month of March so far has been completely different. Although, a 4th Western Disturbance of the month has approached the Western Himalayas and given rain and snow over the hills of North India, all the three states are still rain deficient.
During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Wednesday, light to moderate rain and thundershowers with isolated snowfall occurred over Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. Isolated rains were also observed in Uttarakhand.
Now during the next 24 hours, we expect that weather activity to increase in terms of intensity and spread over all the three hilly states of North India.
By morning of March 15, the intensity will start reducing again over Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. However, Uttarakhand will still continue to receive one or two heavy spells of rain.
March 16 onward, the weather conditions will almost become clear over the hills of North India for 24 to 48 hours.
Further, a new feeble Western Disturbance will begin to affect the region March 17 onward. This weather activity will sustain till March 19. During this period, scattered rain and snow will again commence over the northern hills
