The hills of North India received scattered light to moderate rainfall activity during the last 24 hours. In fact, mostly the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh recorded rains along with light snowfall activity.
In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Tuesday, Manali recorded 15.4 mm of rain, followed by Pahalgam 12 mm, Qazigund 8.2 mm, Kupwara 8.4 mm, Batote 7.4 mm, Bhaderwah 5.6 mm, Gulmarg 4 mm, Jammu 1.4 mm and Banihal 0.5 mm.
Now a Western Disturbance is persisting over Jammu and Kashmir. Therefore, we expect intensity of rains to increase and isolated places may also receive heavy rain and snowfall activity. Upper reaches of Uttarakhand may also receive scattered rain and snow.
Southern districts of Uttarakhand will receive light rain. The ongoing Western Disturbance will move away by tomorrow and intensity of rain will reduce significantly and gradually weather will become clear.
Avalanche warning has been already issued for next 24 hours over Bandipora, Baramulla, Anantnag and Kupwara districts.
After fresh snowfall at Zojila and Minimarag, the Kargil Highway has been closed for vehicular traffic. Mughal Road, connecting Kashmir with Poonch, has also been closed after fresh snow at Peer Ki Gali.
Kargil in Ladakh region was the coldest town on Wednesday with the minimum temperature of minus 7 degrees Celsius, while Leh recorded minus 1.4 degrees Celsius.
