Rain and snow likely over Gulmarg, Srinagar, Manali, Shimla, Mussoorie, Auli

The hilly states of North India had not seen very frequent episodes of rain and snow this season. So much so that along with the second half of December, the first half of January also remained dry.

However, snow show was observed over many parts of the hills of North India. Many tourist locations also saw snowfall activity which was a pleasant surprise for them. The weather did clear up thereafter as the weather system moved away.

However, a fresh Western Disturbance is now over North Jammu and Kashmir. In fact, the system has already started to affect the hills of Western Himalayas. So much so that many parts of Jammu and Kashmir have received rain and snow in the last 24 hours.

Now, the weather system will move towards Jammu and Kashmir by tomorrow leading to an increase in rain and snow over the region.

Thus, light to moderate rain and snow are expected to continue over many parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Himachal Pradesh will also receive good rain and snow. However, weather activity over Uttarakhand will be comparatively less but light rain and snow activity cannot be ruled out.

Thus, popular hilly locales including Gulmarg, Srinagar, Banihal, Qazi Gund, Dharamsala, Manali, Shimla, Mussoorie, Kinnaur, Keylong, Auli, Dalhousie, and Patnitop may receive rain and snow. The possibility of snow in Vaishno Devi cannot be ruled out as well.

Also, Jammu-Srinagar highway may get affected and traffic will suffer due to moderate to heavy snow in these areas. People are advised to avoid traveling from Jammu and Srinagar as landslides and roadblocks are possible.

This weather activity is expected to continue until February 1. The Western Disturbance will move away by February 2, thus, the weather will clear up thereafter.
