The hills of North India are currently observing good weather conditions, which is likely to sustain till January 10. But thereafter, the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand will receive snow and rain as a fresh Western Disturbance is expected to hit the region on January 12.

The effect of the system will however, be confined to the higher reaches. The lower parts of the states will feel the effect in form of decrease in day temperatures and rise in minimums. Srinagar, that has not received any snow till now - a highly unusual phenomenon - will once again go dry.

No major changes in the weather will be observed in the plains due to this system, but some places in the foot hills of Punjab and Haryana could witness some rain. The Western Disturbance is likely to last in the region till January 14.

As the system clears from the region another Western Disturbance is expected around January 17. This system will give good amounts of rain and snow in the hilly states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The precipitation and snowfall this time will be observed in the lower parts of the states as well. Srinagar could probably witness its first snowfall of the season.

The system is likely to have a bearing on the weather in the plains of North India as well. During the period from January 17 to January 21, we can expect some rain in Punjab, Haryana and Delhi. The minimums in the region will rise after observing rain, while the maximums will drop, creating cold day conditions.
