Rain and snow in Shimla, Nainital, Srinagar, Manali, Gulmarg, Mussoorie starting today

The New Year has begun, and the hills of North India have begun witnessing a fresh spell of rain and snow. Moreover, A Western Disturbance is over the Jammu and Kashmir region.

Therefore, due to these weather system, rain and snow will be seen over all the three hilly states of North India. Last night, isolated pockets of the higher reaches of Kashmir saw some rain and snow. However, starting today, rains and snowfall will not only increase in intensity and spread.

Beginning today, we can expect fairly widespread rain as well as snow over Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and many parts of Uttarakhand. The possibility of a couple of heavy episodes also cannot be ruled out.

Because of these weather systems, even the states in the plains of the northern part of the country may see some rains today.

This rainy spell is expected to continue for a long time with just a short break in between. This system will give rain and snow until January 4.

These rain and snow activities will take a break for a day on January 5, however, another Western Disturbance will approach the Himalayan region around January 6, which will continue to impact the hills until January 8.

Thus, rain and snow are likely in Gulmarg, Srinagar, Pahalgam, Shimla, Manali, Nainital, Lahaul Spiti, Mussoorie, Chamoli. The possibility of snow slides also cannot be ruled out which may cause closure of roads, resulting in travel difficulties.
