Rain and snow in offing over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh

After a brief period of dry and clear weather, rain and snow are once again inching closer to the hilly region of North India.

These rain and snow can be attributed to a fresh Western Disturbance that is likely to approach the Western Himalayas by March 15. This system is expected to persist until March 17, before moving northeastwards. At present, it can be seen over Afghanistan.

As per Skymet Weather, light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. Chances of snowfall at few places cannot be ruled out.

However, the intensity of this system in pouring rain and thundershowers over the northern hills will be less as compared to the recent Western Disturbance that had given good amount of rain and snow over the region.

Cold weather conditions that are prevailing over the hilly states are expected to continue as day temperatures will not rise due to cloud cover and rain activity.

Usually the frequency of Western Disturbances during the month of March is not as much as they are in the months of January and February. But this year, back to back Western Disturbances are seen approaching the Western Himalayas in March, giving rain and thundershowers over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
