Rain and snow in Kashmir to remain confined to higher reaches

February 18, 2018 4:04 PM | Skymet Weather Team

The states of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh witnessed widespread rain and snow due to the recurring Western Disturbances over the hilly regions a while ago. Thus, most places in the hills were blanketed with snowfall. In fact, not only did the higher reaches of the states witnessed rain and snowfall but the foothills also recorded a fair amount of weather activity.

However, widespread rain and snow activity has taken a backseat from the region since the last few days. Only isolated pockets in the upper reaches of Kashmir have observed some weather activity.

Currently, a feeble Western Disturbance as an upper air system is moving across northern parts of Jammu and Kashmir. This system is likely to increase clouding over the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir.

The higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir may also start experiencing rain and snow at a few places. Otherwise, for the rest of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, dry weather will continue for the next 48 hours.

No significant change is expected in minimum temperatures for next 24 hours but thereafter, temperatures will be seen increasing.

As of now after the episode of good rain and snowfall maximum and minimum temperatures have marked marginal rise and have settled slightly near the normal level.

According to weathermen, days are expected to remain pleasant while nights will be cool.

Day temperatures are likely to increase due to the approaching Western Disturbance which will start affecting the Western Himalayas from February 20. Rain and snow is likely over parts of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
