The hills of North India have been witnessing the good amount of rain and snow since the beginning of the month. All the three hilly states of North India have seen the varied amount of rain and snow this week.

The state of Jammu and Kashmir has been witnessing rain and snow activities since March 1, continuing until March 4 that even led to the closure of Jammu-Srinagar highway. Himachal Pradesh remained under the influence of rain and snow March 2 onward.

On the other hand, rain and snow over Uttarakhand remained comparatively on the lower side with spells occurring on March 3 and 4.

In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Sunday, Manali recorded 7 mm of rains, Dharamsala 2 mm, Shimla 1 mm, Gulmarg, Qazigund, Banihal all three witnessed 0.4 mm of rains each, and Srinagar recorded some traces of rains. Chamoli observed very heavy snowfall.

As per Skymet Weather, back to back active Western Disturbances are the reason for these heavy rain and snow spells. The induced cyclonic circulation also lies over North Rajasthan and adjoining South Haryana.

Now, the Western Disturbance has moved away eastwards and thus, rain and snow activities over all the three hill states of North India are expected to reduce. The weather would now start clearing up paving way for rising in the temperatures by 3-4 degrees.

Skymet Weather further anticipates an arrival of another Western Disturbance around March 9. However, this weather system is likely to be feeble in nature. Thus, it would not affect the hills of Western Himalayas in terms of heavy rain and snow.

However, Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh can still see some light rain and snow with isolated activities in Uttarakhand. This round of rain and snow is not expected to disrupt the normal life.
