Rain and snow in Himachal, Kashmir; last spell for the region likely

March 12, 2017 3:59 PM | Skymet Weather Team

People in Shimla woke up to a snowy surprise today morning as the city was under a thick quilt of snowfall. The effect of rains and snowfall across the region was strong enough to shut down the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway causing the tourists to remain stranded.

Since last many days moderate to heavy with isolated very heavy rain and snow was going on over most places of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The persisting Western Disturbance over is moving away and is likely to be the last in the series of Western Disturbances.

Due to this only light to moderate rain and snowfall will continue over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and isolated parts of Uttarakhand. Weather is expected to go dry after March 14. This may be the last heavy spell of rain and thundershower with snowfall of the season.
