The weather in the hills of North India is pleasant and comfortable right now as the day temperatures are settling above normal at many places. The minimums are also recording close to normal in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Shimla recorded 15.8°C as the maximum temperature on Thursday, which is 6 degrees above normal. The minimum also settled 3 degrees below normal at 5.6°C. In Uttarakhand, Mukteshwar saw the maximum settle at 12.9°C, which is marginally above normal. Similarly, Srinagar in Jammu and Kashmir recorded 12.4°C as the maximum on Thursday, which is 6 degrees above normal.

Fresh Western Disturbance

The pleasant weather conditions are going to prevail in the region for only a couple of days more as a fresh Western Disturbance is expected to hit the region on January 12 and give rain and snow. The effect of the system will however, be confined to the higher reaches. The lower parts of the states will feel the effect in form of decrease in day temperatures and rise in minimums. Srinagar, that has not received any snow till now - a highly unusual phenomenon - will once again miss the white blanket but chances of rain are high.

Down in the plains we can expect clouding and rain at isolated places in Punjab, Haryana and Delhi-NCR from January 13 onwards. The Western Disturbance is likely to last in the region till January 14.
