Delhi has been witnessing dry and hot weather conditions since last many days. In fact, no significant pre-monsoon activity has been seen over Delhi-NCR region throughout the month of June except on June 9, when severe dust storm and thundershower activities occurred. Usually, northwestern plains including Delhi do not see such less pre-monsoon rain and thundershowers.

The lack of pre-monsoon activities has led to prolonged hot and dry weather conditions, due to which significant discomfort is being witnessed by the people of Delhi.

On Monday, Delhi NCR saw mercury rising to 43.6°C, leading to extremely hot weather conditions. However, weather conditions have now changed.  Sky has already become overcast on Tuesday and few parts of Delhi and adjoining areas of Faridabad, Noida, Gurugram and Ghaziabad have seen light to very light rains as well.

In wake of this, there has been significant drop in  mercury at least by 7-8 degrees. At present, mercury is hovering in Delhi around 34°C as compared to 41°C on Monday. Weather has gone pleasant across the national capital and weathermen predict similar weather to prevail throughout the day. According to Skymet Weather, day maximum is not likely to surpass 40-degree mark today.

As we can see that Monsoon has become active over many areas. Therefore, we expect winds to change direction and start blowing from east. Thus, pre-Monsoon activities will commence from now across the northwestern plains. In fact, yesterday also some parts of Delhi-NCR have received dust storm activity.

Now, rain and thundershowers with mild dust storm may occur today as well. Gradually, rain is expected to increase over Delhi-NCR tomorrow onwards and on and off rain and thundershowers may continue till first week of July.

We expect Monsoon to make an onset over Delhi very soon now. However, the normal date for the onset of Monsoon is June 29 over Delhi and this year, as well, we expect Monsoon to mark its onset on time.
