Puri, Sambalpur, Visakhapatnam, Nellore to continue with good Monsoon rains

Good rains have been occurring over the state of Odisha since the beginning of Southwest Monsoon. The rain intensity varied in nature; in the month of August only light to moderate rains had occurred over Balasore, Paradip, Chandbali, and Bhubaneswar.

Heavy intensity rains had not occurred over the state since many days. It was anticipated by Skymet Weather that heavy rains would occur over Odisha by August 17. Many places such as Angul, Cuttack, Deogarh, Jajpur, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Ganjam, Koraput, Puri, and Chandbali witnessed varied intensity of rains in the past few days.

In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Wednesday, Sambalpur witnessed 85 mm of heavy rainfall, Jharsuguda 65 mm, Puri 61 mm. in the same span of time Sundargarh received 29 mm of moderate intensity rain, Titlagarh 26 mm and Koraput 22 mm of rain. Chanbali also witnessed light intensity rain of 7 mm.

These rains occurred due to a small trough extending from North Bihar to North Coast of Odisha. As per Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation is expected to form shortly on the coast of Odisha and adjoining Bay of Bengal. The system will move gradually towards west wards.

Due to this weather system, the southern parts will continue to receive good rainfall with few a heavy spells. While the northern parts will witness scattered light to moderate rains. These rains are likely to continue for the next 48 hours. At present, the state of Odisha has witnessed normal Monsoon conditions and with the increase in rains, the rain statistics may become surplus.

Light to moderate rain and thundershower with strong gusty winds may occur at some parts over Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Anantapur, Cuddapah, Guntur, Krishna, Kurnool, Nellore and West Godavari districts of Andhra Pradesh during next 6 hours.
