Punjab, Haryana to witness pre-Monsoon rains today

After reeling in above 40-degree maximums, some rain and thundershower activities are expected to finally bless the northern parts of Punjab including Ludhiana, Chandigarh, Jalandhar and Anandpur Sahib. Though, we expect these rainy spells to be light in nature, but they will result in dropping the day temperatures by a few notches.

According to Skymet Weather, a fresh Western Disturbance as an upper air system is moving across Jammu and Kashmir. This has induced a cyclonic circulation over North Rajasthan and Punjab. A trough is also seen extending from this system up to west Uttar Pradesh.

Due to these systems, we may expect scattered light rains and thunder activities to occur during afternoon hours over Punjab and Haryana in the next 24 hours.

Tuesday also saw some good rains and thundershowers over these states. In the span of last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Tuesday, Ludhiana recorded 16.2mm of rainfall, Chandigarh 3.6 mm, Jalandhar 2.2 mm and Anandpur Sahib 1 mm.

Thereafter, these pre-Monsoon showers may further bring down the temperatures but it will be a short-term relief as after the weather activity, temperatures will rise and troll back to normal.
