Like Delhi and the adjoining regions, the state of Punjab was also lashed by rain, thunderstorm and dust storm activities last day. Due to this, the day temperature that was settling close to 40°C also plummeted and settled below this mark.
In fact, the mercury level dropped tremendously in Amritsar from 41.3°C being recorded on April 21 to 30.4°C in the last hours. In a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Saturday, light rainy spells of 2.4 mm were observed in Pathankot while Ludhiana, Patiala, and Chandigarh to observed few traces of rains.
The reason for these rains along with dust storm and thunderstorm can be associated with the Western Disturbance that can be marked over Afghanistan and North Pakistan. Moreover, an induced cyclonic circulation also persists over Central Pakistan.
Another cyclonic circulation can be seen over Haryana and West Uttar Pradesh. Both these weather systems led to the dust storm and thunderstorm activity to occur in Haryana and Punjab.
As per Skymet Weather, similar weather condition is expected to continue for the next 24 hours in Punjab. Light rains can show up. Warm n humid weather is likely to prevail over the region. However, after the thundershower episode, the temperature is expected to cool down.
