On Saturday morning, Adampur in Punjab recorded 0.2℃C, resulting in severe cold wave conditions.
Cold wave conditions are declared when the normal minimum temperature for any given city in the plains is less than 10℃ and is settling 4-6 degrees below the normal average.
Let us have a look at the night temperatures recorded on Saturday morning at various cities:
Moderate fog with isolated dense fog in some pockets was also seen over places of Adampur, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Karnal and Ambala.
However, some relief is in offing now. According to Skymet Weather, a fresh Western Disturbance is likely approaching Jammu and Kashmir. As a result, these chilly northwesterly winds would now be obstructed, and winds would be replaced with easterlies and south-easterlies. These winds are comparatively warm and moist in nature.
