Both the northern plains and hills had been witnessing dry and slightly warm days for the past few days. So much so that temperatures were running well above the normal levels. Rain gods had bestowed some kindness last week but temperatures soared thereafter.
However, the approach of an active Western Disturbance over the Western Himalayas has resulted in heavy rain and snow over the hills of North India. Under the system’s influence, an induced cyclonic circulation has also developed over Central Pakistan and adjoining Rajasthan.
Due to this, good rains have made an appearance over several parts of Punjab as well as northern parts of Haryana.
During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday, light rains were recorded over several parts including Amritsar where 2.8 mm of rain was received, Anandpur Sahib 3 mm, Ludhiana 4.6 mm, Patiala 2 mm, and Ambala 3.6 mm. Isolated areas of Rajasthan including Sri Ganganagar where 0.5 mm rainfall was witnessed.
Now, during the enxt 24 hours, Punjab may receive scattered light rains. Not only this, isolated pockets of Haryana are also expected to receive some rains. Thereafter, the weather system will move away and dry weather conditions are expected to take over.
