Winter has finally begun to make an appearance over North India and in northern plains, Punjab is the first region to get the taste of the winters.
A fresh Western Disturbance is affecting Jammu and Kashmir region. The system has also induced a cyclonic circulation over Central Pakistan and adjoining Punjab.
Both the systems coupled together are expected to give scattered rains over northern parts of Punjab such as Amritsar, Gurdaspur and Nawashahar. In wake of this, minimum temperatures have already increased marginally and may rise further on Saturday.
At present, thundershowers have already started lashing few parts of the state and rains are likely to follow soon. Weather will remain cloudy throughout the day on Saturday.
We expect weather to clear up by November 13 as both the systems will move away. Night temperatures which had reduced earlier will start falling again due to commencement of cold northwesterly and northerly winds.
Moreover, this time, we expect this drop to be a steeper one that will also mark the onset of winters over the region.
Punjab has been witnessing mainly dry weather conditions ever since the withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon. Though one after another Western Disturbances approached Western Himalayas but they were very feeble in nature and failed to give any weather activity over parts of North India.
According to Skymet Weather, Western Disturbances tend to affect the lower latitudes from October to February, but this year, we have not seen any such disturbances approaching the northern plains till now.
