The northwestern states of India, Punjab and Haryana have been observing dry weather conditions since the last many days. Moreover, during the last 24 hours as well, dry weather prevailed over both these states.
Along with dry weather, shallow to moderate fog was observed over some places of Punjab and Haryana. Mornings were cold while the day was pleasant with poor visibility conditions due to fog/mist and smoke/haze.
Currently, a Western Disturbance as an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over northern parts of Afghanistan and adjoining parts of Pakistan region. Its associated induced cyclonic circulation is over East central Pakistan and adjoining parts of North Rajasthan.
Both these weather systems would be moving east/northeastwards and affecting the Punjab and parts of Haryana region between December 10 and 12.
During this time, clouding will increase over these states and due to this, day temperatures will fall significantly, and night temperatures will increase.
However, between December 10 and 12, light rainfall activity will occur over many places of Punjab and short spell of light rain will occur over few places of Haryana.
Thus, we can say that places such as Jind, Kurukshetra, Ambala, Panchkula, Sirsa, Fatehabad, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Firozpur, Ludhiana, Patiala and Chandigarh may receive light rainfall activity during the next 48 hours.
