Punjab and Haryana on 'heavy rain' and 'thundershower' alert

Last 24 hours saw dry weather in both the states of Punjab and Haryana. Also, the intensity of fog was observed on a decreasing gradient at many places. Mainly ‘moderate’ with patchy ‘dense’ fog was observed over most parts of the state. While the visibility reported in the city of Hisar was at 500 metres; Narnaul, Ludhiana also reported moderate fog. Cold Wave conditions have abated from both the states as of now. Apart from this, the night temperatures have increased by about three to four degree Celsius over many places.

Presently a Western Disturbance is moving away across Jammu and Kashmir. A fresh Western Disturbance which is presently lying over Iran and adjoining Afghan region is likely to affect Northern Himalayan region in the next 24 hours. The upcoming system is quite strong this time. Its induced Cyclonic Circulation is most likely to form over South-west Rajasthan in the next 24 hours to follow.

Thereafter, clouding is likely to increase over most parts of Punjab and gradually over Haryana. Rain and thundershower activity may affect Western parts of Punjab by either evening or night, tomorrow. The activity will increase thereafter and will continue for the next 48 hours. Isolated hailstorm with gusty winds is also at chance on January 21 over both the states. Maximum temperatures will see a drop over most places during this time. Following this, the activity is likely to decrease, January 22 and after.
