Though these rains were light to moderate in nature, they still managed to keep the weather conditions pleasant thereby curtailing down the maximum temperatures. Due to these spells, the daytime high remained between 26°C-30°C.

As per Skymet Weather, the reason for these Monsoon showers can be attributed to the offshore trough which is persisting from South Gujarat up to North Kerala. At present this trough is weak and hence, the rain intensity over Pune is less and the city is witnessing light rains.

Whenever this trough becomes active, it further activates the Monson Surge along the West Coast thus resulting in good rains and vice versa.
Moreover, the topography of Pune is such that it lies on the eastern side of the Western Ghats and therefore, it does not receive many drops of rain during this period. The monthly average rains for Pune stands at 187.2 mm and the city has just recorded mm of rains.
As on July 4, Pune is 65% rain surplus but these ongoing light spells would not benefit much in increasing the rain surplus status of the city of Maharashtra. However, will be of a great help in keeping the soil moisture intact.
