Pune sizzles at 40.1 degrees, highest in a decade

It seems like the weather gods are not too happy with the residents of Pune at this point. The sizzling summer heat is at its peak and the month of March has not even ended yet. The temperatures were settling quite close to the 40-degree mark.

However, yesterday, the maximum crossed 40 degrees with the temperature settling at a whopping 40.1 degree. Usually, the city of Pune records maximums close to 36 degrees during the month of March. Yesterday’s maximum has been the highest since the last ten years.

Before this, the highest maximum record in a decade had settled at 39.6 degrees on March 30 in the year 2007. The record for the highest maximum is at 42.8 degrees and dates way back to March 28, 1892.

These weather conditions can be attributed to the absence of any weather activity over the region. Not only this, north-northwesterly winds from Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh are approaching the region. These winds are hot and dry and the maximums over Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh are already quite high. Thus, Pune has also come under the grip of intense heat.

The minimums in Pune are also settling well above the normal levels. At 24 degrees, night temperatures in Pune are settling at least six degrees above the normal levels. Thus, both night and day temperatures are settling well above the normal levels.

As per weathermen at Skymet, these weather conditions will continue to persist over the region. Both minimums as well as maximums will continue to settle on the higher side resulting in uneasy conditions.
