Most parts of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh were reeling under heat wave conditions. April was almost dry for both the states and the temperatures were scorching and settling near 45°C.

However, the month of May did bring some rains and poured over a few districts while the other still remained parched. Though now it seems that the rain gods have finally bestowed upon the states and at present both the states are observing rains which have drenched a few regions. Though a few coastal regions like Mumbai were spared from witnessing any downpour.

Skymet Weather relates these rains with a trough that is extending from central Uttar Pradesh across Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha region in Maharashtra and Telangana towards Interior Karnataka. It is due to this weather system that parts of North Madhya Pradesh and Madhya Maharashtra have witnessed light to moderate showers in the last 24 hours.

Within a span of 24 hours from 08:30 am on Sunday, few districts in Maharashtra like Vengurla observed 12 mm of rains, Bijapur 9.8 mm, Satara 3 mm and Pune witnessed light spells of 0.2 mm. During the similar time frame, Dhar in Madhya Pradesh observed 15 mm of showers, Ujjain 3 mm, and Bhopal witnessed 0.1 mm of rainy traces.

In fact, Pune is already seeing cloudy weather and hence a few areas can expect thundershower activities due to the prevalent cloud build up.

Moreover, Skymet Weather reiterates that this trough is now likely to move slightly eastwards in the next 24 hours and hence it will let the rains to continue lashing both the states for another 24 hours. These rains will result in subsiding the prevailing temperatures.

Hence a slight relief from the hot weather condition in both the states is anticipated.
