Southwest Monsoon made a delayed onset over Pune on June 20. The city has been recording on and off rains since then. However, the rainfall intensity has remained on the lower side as Pune doesn’t receive heavy rains unlike its neighbours in Coastal Maharashtra.
While the city recorded a mere 0.1 mm of rain on July 1, rains picked up pace and the intensity of rains increased marginally. So much so that Pune recorded 12 mm of rainfall during the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Friday.
Weather conditions also remain pleasant with continuous light rain over the city. The maximum temperature continues to remain below the 30-degree mark.
Usually, heavy rainfall activity during Monsoon occurs mainly over the Western Ghats side. In fact, Pune only witnesses subdued rainfall activity during the Southwest Monsoon season. For instance, the monthly average rains for Pune in July stand at 187.2 mm as compared to Mumbai’s 799.7 mm.
Now, during the next 24 to 48 hours, isolated rainfall activity is likely to continue over Pune. However, the possibility of heavy showers over the city is highly unlikely.
