Rains are expected to continue in cities of Sangli, Satara, and Kolhapur for a couple of more days. However, rains in Pune and Nashik will continue to be on the lesser side.
After a couple of more days, rains may see a reduction. However, with water bodies overflowing, floodwaters will take a while to recede.

At least 16 people have lost their lives in less than a week in Pune due to incessant rains that have been lashing the Pune division which consists of five districts.
The highest casualty was seen in Satara district where rains claimed seven lives. Four people have died in Pune, while two people lost their lives in Sangli and two in Kolhapur. One person has also been killed in Solapur.

The National Highway 4 has been damaged due to a landslide caused by continuous rains near Karnataka and Maharashtra border. The damaged road falls at Shiroli, near Kolhapur. In fact, heavy to very heavy rains are being witnessed in Kolhapur for the last three days. Owing to the impact of the landslide, the road has broken into parts bringing the vehicular movement on this busy stretch to a grinding halt.

Due to rising water levels in Pavana, Mula and Mutha, the traffic police had closed six out of 30 bridges in Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad on Monday. Water release from Khadakwasla Dam also took place at the rate of 45474 cusecs into the Mutha River, which happened to be the highest discharge rate in the last 8 years.
As water entered the homes of people, at least 5000 of them were shifted to community halls and schools. The NDRF and Fire Brigade rescued more than 600 people.
Now, as per weathermen at Skymet Weather, rains in Pune are expected to see a reduction but the possibility of one odd localised spells cannot be ruled out.

The Pavana river, which flows through Pimpri Chinchwad, was in full spate and its overflowing waters even breached the safety walls in some areas. The irrigation department released water at 19,770 cubic feet per second (Cusecs) into the river from the Pavana dam on Monday morning.

A total of 17 trains, including the intercity express trains between Mumbai and Pune, have been cancelled due to rains on Monday, Pune's divisional railway manager said. Central Railway officials said that work on different tracks along many sections is going on and they are trying to restore normalcy. These cancellations are for today only. The southeast ghat section (Karjat-Lonavla) and the northeast ghat section (Kasara Igatpuri) is still sensitive, sources said as rains are continuing and restoration works, after the landslides on Saturday and Sunday, is being carried out. Among the trains which have been cancelled include 12111 Mumbai-Amravati Express, 12110 Manmad-Mumbai Panchavati Express, 12109 Mumbai-Manmad Panchavati Express, 22102 Manmad-Mumbai Rajyarani Express, 22101 Mumbai-Manmad Rajyarani Express amd 12118 Manmad-LTT Express. Similarly, 12117 LTT-Manmad Express, 51424 Manmad-Igatpuri Passenger, 51423 Igatpuri-Manmad Passenger, 51401 Pune-Manmad Passenger, 51402 Manmad-Pune Passenger, 51154 Bhusaval-Mumbai Passenger, 51153 Mumbai-Bhusaval Passenger, 22107 Mumbai-Latur Express and 22103 Allahabad-LTT Express are cacenlled.

Rain in Pune has been wreaking havoc over the city. So much so that schools have been declared closed in the city in view of heavy rainfall forecast for the city. Similarly, schools in Mumbai have also been declared closed.
Meanwhile, in the last 21 hours from 8:30 am on Sunday, Pune has recorded 38 mm of rains. Today, heavy showers are not to be seen but moderate rains are expected in some parts of the city.
All in all, relief is in sight as hefty rains will take a backseat which will help in flood waters to recede from the region. However, it will not be an immediate one and the city will take some time to get back to normalcy.

In the last 24 hours, heavy rains to the tune of 45.9 mm have lashed the city of Pune. Heavy Monsoon showers have resulted in water-logging at several places.
Low-lying areas in the city were on alert after water was released into the Mutha river on Sunday due incessant rains in the catchment areas of dams.
The heavy downpour in Pune, Mumbai and in the adjoining areas has affected train traffic between the two cities. In fact, a minor landslide near Lonavala was also reported, thus blocking railway tracks, leading to delayed trains coming to Pune from the city of Mumbai. The landslide has resulted in diversion of the Mumbai-Pune train traffic via Kalyan-Kasara-Nashik-Manmad.
Not only this, the Pune Municipal Corporation has shifted more than 500 families to safer locations as a flood-like situation has popped up in the city.
The reason for these showers can be attributed to the offshore Trough extending from Gujarat Coast up to Kerala Coast. As this system will persist for some more time, the rainfall activities will continue for the next 24 hours.
Rains will be moderate in nature and the weather would continue to remain pleasant and comfortable. These conditions are likely during the next 24 hours. Thereafter, rains may taper over the region.
During this period, the chances of landslides over the hilly regions of the city cannot be ruled out.
At present, the day temperatures are settling around 27 degree Celsius. Once the rainfall recedes, maximums will start increasing slowly.
Besides Pune, other cities in Madhya Maharashtra too will record moderate rains with isolated heavy spells during the coming days.
Due to good amounts of rain, Madhya Maharashtra is standing rain surplus by 41%, as on August 3. During the next 24 hours as well the Monsoon rains would continue to lash, thus improving the rain surplus of the region even further.
