While the Monsoon showers are lashing lavishly over the coastal districts of Maharashtra, the interior parts of the state are recording light to moderate spells. Pune had also followed the suit and recorded 30 mm of moderate showers.
Though Pune has been witnessing on and off light showers ever since September began, this is the highest amount of rain for the month for the city. With these showers, the city has been able to record 96.4 mm of rains as against its monthly mean of 120.1 mm of rains which are a close affair.

The reason for these rains can be attributed to the cyclonic circulation that was persisting from South Konkan to Kerala. However, now this weather system has weakened and lies as a trough over North Madhya Maharashtra and North Konkan and Goa.

Due to this, the rainfall intensity over the city is likely to pace down now. Moderate showers are likely to show up for today. But by September 21, Monsoon rains are expected to again subside and the weather will start clearing up.
Moreover, with approx. 10 days remaining for the month to get over, and predictions of rains to slow down now, it is worth waiting if the city can surpass its monthly target or not.
