Pune-Nasik To Have Pre-Monsoon Showers, Precursor To The Monsoon Onset

June 5, 2024 1:08 PM |

Parts of Madhya Maharashtra had some pre-monsoon activity, yesterday. Pune received heavy thunder showers accompanied with strong winds, last evening. This spell broke the jinx of prolonged dry weather for two weeks. The city recorded 68mm rainfall in 24 hours and bulk of it in just 2 hours in the evening. Some other stations of Madhya Maharashtra like Sangli and Satara also got heavy and moderate showers, respectively. Twin city Nasik missed the event and continued to remain dry for the last about three weeks.

Pune and Nasik are likely to have pre-monsoon showers over the next three days. Moderate thundershowers are expected for both cities this evening. Spread and intensity will reduce over the next two days, when the rainfall may be light. As it is, Pune -Nasik do not rain heavily in the monsoon month of June, lee side effect of the Western Ghats.

A cyclonic circulation is coming up over the North Madhya Maharashtra and adjoining Marathwada region. This feature will trigger the pre-monsoon showers over the next two days, before turning weak on 07th June. Yet another circulation is likely over the same area, a little later, on 09th June. The weather activity is likely between the 09th and 11th of June before it recedes around mid-week next. This may coincide and become a trigger for the monsoon to reach over this region.
