However, these rains would be of short duration and would be short-lived hence any major relief from the rising mercury levels in both Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra is not expected. Moreover, this spell would be the first pre-Monsoon spell over Konkan.
These rains would be due to a trough that is extending from the northern parts of Madhya Maharashtra to Interior Tamil Nadu.
On the other hand, the weather of Vidarbha would become dry and maximum temperatures would increase over both Vidarbha and Marathwada regions. Most of the districts of these regions would continue to register the temperatures at around 40 degrees Celsius or above.
At this stage, let us see the impact of this weather on the agriculture belt of Maharashtra:
In view of rains over Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra, farmers are advised to provide support to Banana, Papaya, and young fruit plants and vegetables so as to avoid lodging. Farmers are also recommended to undertake to prop up in sugarcane. Farmers should also continue the harvesting of fruits and undertake to harvest of matured groundnut. Farmers should also avoid irrigation, intercultural operation and application of plant protection measures and fertilizers to the standing crops.
In Vidarbha region, under the prevailing weather conditions, it is recommended to the farmers to irrigate the summer crops (groundnut, sesame, green gram). In Marathwada, in view of prevailing dry weather, irrigating summer maize, vegetables and mango orchard is suggested.
