After Bangalore, hot weather conditions are now posing threat to Pune’s title of ‘one of the most pleasant city of India’. Also known as ‘Queen of Deccan’, the city is famous for its pleasant and soothing climate throughout the year.
Ever since the beginning of April, Pune has been reaching 40°C quite frequently. According to Skymet Weather, city has surpassed 40°C on nine days in the April so far.
Till now, the city has recorded its highest day temperature on April 14 and April 15 at 40.8°C. Maximum temperatures have been settling above normal average of 38.1°C consecutively for the last 13 days.
Moreover, no respite is likely in next few days and we can expect mercury to soar further.
Though April is the hottest month for Pune but temperatures exceeding 40 degrees is very rare. In span of five years, the city has not surpassed 40-degree mark till the third week of the month.
Pre-Monsoon showers have also remained mainly nil, Pune has recorded mere 2.2 mm of rain against the monthly average of 16.6 mm.
According to Skymet Weather, the city falls on the leeward side of the Western Ghats and thus not enjoy widespread heavy showers. However, on and off light rains keep the city cool and pleasant.
Bangalore also has been observing abnormally high temperatures. At 37.8°C, it has already recorded highest temperature of decade on April 16.
No major change is expected in the temperature profile across the country. With this, we expect that both cities may see some record-breaking temperatures in coming days.
This April 2016, heatwave to severe heatwave conditions have gripped most parts of the country. Right from hills of Himachal Pradesh to coastal stations of East India to pleasant cities of Bangalore and Pune, blazing heat has spared none.
