Temperatures surpassing the 40-degree mark at this time of the year is a clear indication of harsh summer. A few regions of the country, especially West and Central India are reeling under heatwave to severe heatwave conditions.

Pune, which has seldom seen the maximums settling below 35°C the entire month has already been crowned of observing the highest day temperatures in March in a decade. Moreover, it seems that the city is all geared up to uphold its crown.

On Thursday, Pune recorded 39.7°C against its monthly mean of 36°C. A day before also the city had witnessed the day temperatures settling at 40.1°C, which was the highest in a decade. Thus, taking into account the maximum temperatures of yesterday and a day before, the city had recorded both the highest and second highest temperatures since 10 years within these to days. Thus, the two consecutive days had been hottest ever recorded in a decade.

On Friday also, the mercury had surpassed 40-degree mark by afternoon only.  As per Skymet Weather, the reason for the hot and scorching weather can be attributed to the dry and warm inland winds that are prevailing over the region. Due to this, the maximums are scaling up speedily.

However, now, a change in the wind pattern is likely and hence, a marginal drop by one or two degrees in the day temperature is expected after 24 hours. Thus, people in Pune can expect a slight relief from the ongoing sizzling temperatures.
