For a long time, the weather of Mumbai was blazing as summer heat gripped the city. For entire month of April, the mercury of Mumbai was above normal levels. But the weather has finally made a shift and drop in mercury can be expected over the city.
The hot inland wind has changed its direction and winds are now blowing from southwest direction over Mumbai. These southwesterly winds are relatively less hot and carry enough moisture content. These moisture laden winds are expected to bring the temperatures down.
Rainfall is nowhere to be seen over Mumbai, and such rainless period over Mumbai during April is normal. The city has a reputation of being a dry as the city records less than a millimeter of rainfall.
And this drop in mercury is expected to last for next 3-4 days over the city. While Mumbai witness a drop in mercury, its urban neighbor Pune continues its battles with high temperatures.
On multiple occasions in April, the city of Pune has recorded its maximum temperature over 40 degrees. Such high levels of mercury in the early stages of summer are not common. Pune is battling with high level of mercury due to the blow of northwesterly inland winds. These winds are reaching the station after passing though the hotter region of Madhya Maharashtra.
