Pune is shivering with cold weather conditions with mercury plunging significantly, even lower than the famous hill stations of Shimla and Mahabaleshwar.
All thanks to the cold and dry northwesterly winds blowing from North India via neighbouring state of Madhya Pradesh.
For the last four consecutive day, night temperatures in Pune has been hovering in the range of 9.5°C to 10.5°C. Meanwhile, minimum temperatures in Shimla have been settling between 10°C and 12.5°C and Mahabaleshwar between 14°C and 15°C.
According to Skymet Weather, this contrasting climate is a result of the combination of several weather conditions.
On one hand, clear sky and cold and dry winds from North have led to drop in mercury by several notches in Pune, while on other hand, back to back active Western Disturbances over hilly states have increased the night temperatures in Shimla.
Meteorologists predict that no major changes in the temperature profile over Pune, at least, for the next few days. Nights will remain cool over the city and minimums will settle in the range of 10 to 12 degrees.
While, present conditions will only change in the hilly states of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh as and when the Western Disturbance will clear the region by November 27. Thereafter, the minimum temperatures will drop significantly by 5-6 degrees.
