Twin cities Pune and Nasik of Madhya Maharashtra are likely to have unseasonal rain and thunderstorm on 18th and 19th February. A bigger share of this activity may be claimed on 18th February itself and become rather mild on a subsequent day. The unseasonal weather may also be accompanied with some hailstorm in some areas on 18th February. The peak period of this spell is expected on 18thevening and night and likely to move away towards Aurangabad and Ahmednagar the next morning.
January and February are considered dry months for both Pune and Nasik and are known for pleasant weather conditions during the period. Pune and Nasik start heating up towards the 2nd half of February. Pune has remained totally dry in the month of February since 2010 and even Nasik has not received any rainfall during this period barring February 2013. Earlier the month of January 2021 also made exceptions by witnessing unseasonal moderate rains in Pune and Nasik between 08th and 10th Jan.
Untimely weather activity is under the influence of onshore trough extending from Kerala to North Madhya Maharashtra with a circulation embedded at the top end. This feature has been appearing for the last couple of days but without any action. Now a wind discontinuity over the central parts shifting southwest is bringing the convergence zone on the lee side of Western Ghats. Some other parts of Madhya Maharashtra and neighbouring Marathwada may also experience similar weather during these 2 days. Temperature is likely to drop by 2-4°C in the day time and a marginal slide even during the night. Clearance is expected from 20th February onward and the region may experience a steep rise in the mercury level.
