In the last one week, most parts of the country felt the wrath of the heat wave. Even the hills of North India, especially Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand sweltered with maximum temperatures settling in mid-thirties.

This sharp rise in temperatures is attributed to hot winds and clear skies. Maximums settled above 45°C in several parts of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi and NCR.
Now the good news is that you may expect some relief over the next few days.
Multiple weather systems will bring a prolonged wet spell in almost entire North India. Rain and thundershowers will commence on May 30 to continue till June 4. No singular weather system bears the strength to bring such prolonged and widespread rainfall activity. In this case, the Western Disturbance (WD) over Jammu and Kashmir and the induced cyclonic circulation over central Pakistan and adjoining Rajasthan will work in tandem to bring rain over entire North India.

The WD has already begun to show its effect over higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir. On Saturday, May 30, the WD will bring rain over Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab. Thereafter, the rainfall activity will start moving eastwards and bring under its purview Haryana, North Rajasthan, West Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and NCR.
On 2nd and 3rd of June, squally winds along with thundershowers could possibly amount to flood-like situation in the mountainous terrains, and the weather will turn comfortable in entire North India. Overcast skies will bring down temperatures significantly. After enduring sweltering heat, people in the plains will get some respite as the maximums will plunge from mid-forties to mid-thirties.
The Western Disturbance and the induced cyclonic circulation brought fairly widespread rainfall over central and West Pakistan, on Thursday. Maximums have already come down by 5-6°C over the region. Relatively cool and moist southwesterly winds coming from these areas will add to the pleasant weather in northwest India.
Meanwhile, the countdown to the onset of Monsoon in Kerala has started. In the satellite images, we can see Monsoon clouds approaching the West Coast of India, making conditions favourable for the onset of Southwest Monsoon.
