Sub Himalayan West Bengal is all set to see some good rains during the next two days. These rains will continue for long and may see an increase on May 20. Thereafter, eastern parts of Bihar will also start to receive rains May 20 onward.
On May 23 and 24, Sub Himalayan West Bengal and central districts of Bengal may again receive rains. Rain intensity may also increase over eastern parts of Bihar as well as the foothills of the state. On May 25 and 26, many parts of West Bengal and Bihar may see rains.
These showers will continue until the onset of Monsoon over the northern districts of West Bengal and northeastern regions of Bihar.
Talking about rain statistics, West Bengal, particularly Gangetic West Bengal is large surplus by 80 percent whereas Sub Himalayan is rain deficient by 5 percent. The reason for surplus rains over one part of the state can be attributed to Cyclone Fani, which did give heavy rains over the region.
The point to be noted here is that the normal of Gangetic West Bengal stands at 114 mm in May, while Sub Himalayan West Bengal sees 306 mm during the same time frame. Thus, good rains have been seen over most parts of West Bengal.
The state of Bihar is also rainfall surplus by 1 percent and remains in the normal category. Good rains have been seen over most parts of the states, particularly eastern as well as northeastern parts. Now also, due to the upcoming spells of rains, rain surplus will remain over both the states. However, rains will remain almost absent for the parts of Bihar adjoining East Uttar Pradesh.
