Prolonged pre-Monsoon spell to cool down Maharashtra

High temperatures in Nashik, Aurangabad and adjoining areas gave way to pre-Monsoon activities in Maharashtra on Sunday.

Scattered light to moderate rains have occurred over Vidarbha and northern parts of Madhya Maharashtra. These rains can be attributed to a trough extending from eastern parts of Vidarbha to South Tamil Nadu. We can also see a feeble trough developing over Northern parts of Madhya Maharashtra. Thus, multiple weather systems have brought scattered rainfall activities along with strong winds and hailstorm over these areas.

During last 24 hours, Nashik received 16 mm of rainfall, Aurangabad 15 mm, Akola received 9.4 mm, Yeotmal 0.4 mm and Nagpur 0.1 mm. Amravati and Buldhana also received light rainfall.

As of now, we can expect scattered light to moderate rainfall to continue over Vidarbha, Marathwada and parts of North Madhya Maharashtra during next 48 hours. Temperatures may decrease marginally over these areas and by May 12 the rain intensity and spread will decrease. But, isolated places will continue to get light thunderstorm or thundershower activities as the trough from Vidarbha to south Tamil Nadu is expected to persist with slight oscillation from East to West.

Therefore, we can say that on and off thundershowers activities will continue and weather will not go dry for a long period. These pre-Monsoon activities will occur mostly during late afternoon hours.
