June 4, 2016 3:31 PM |

Prolonged dry spell to come to an end with Mumbai rainsMumbai rains have remained absent for a long time. While isolated pockets in the city did receive light rain, the month of May remained mostly dry for the commercial capital of India. However, soon Mumbai rains are expected to be back with a bang.

While the average rainfall for the month of May remains at a mere 12.5 mm, Mumbai rains decided to completely give a miss this time. The month of June gets way rainier and the monthly average jumps to a whopping 523.1 mm.

The normal onset date for Mumbai is June 10. Most parts of Kerala, Karnataka and Konkan and Goa have been receiving good rains. Madhya Maharashtra still awaits for good rains to lash the region.

The cyclonic circulation which is over Lakshadweep and adjoining Kerala is expected to move along the coast towards north and gradual increase in rains is anticipated over Madhya Maharashtra. Mumbai rains are expected to commence on June 7. However, these rains will be light in intensity and will affect only some parts of the city.

Thereafter, a gradual increase in both intensity and spread is expected over the city. By June 9 and 10, many areas of Mumbai and the suburbs will begin to receive good showers. These rains will continue until the arrival of Monsoon and these Pre-Monsoon showers will gradually merge with Monsoon rains.
