It seems that pre-Monsoon activities have refused to loosen grip over Delhi-NCR, this season. On and off thundershowers and dust storm ever since the beginning of May have not let the intense heat set in over the national capital till now. All thanks to the passage of successive Western Disturbances across Jammu and Kashmir and their induced low over the plains of North India.

Although, temperatures have been surpassing 40-degree mark quite often but harsh afternoons that were prevalent during the last 2-3 years have remained at bay.

Last 24 hours also saw mild dust storm affecting some parts of Delhi. Now also, the situation remains favourable for another short spell of dust storm or thundershowers on Friday. In fact, mild dust storm has already been witnessed during the morning hours today.

According to weathermen, increase in maximum temperatures by afternoon would once again trigger the development of convective clouds, leading to thunderstorm, dust storm or thundershowers along with light rains. Lightning strikes would also be a possibility during that time.

As reiterated before, these activities would occur during the later afternoon or evening hours.

According to Skymet Weather, a cyclonic circulation has been prevailing over Punjab and adjoining areas. Besides this, a trough is also extending from Rajasthan to eastern parts of the country, which has been infusing humid winds from the Bay of Bengal.

With two essential factors of heat and moisture both available in the atmosphere, pre-Monsoon activities would continue to affect several parts of northwestern plains including Delhi-NCR for the next 48 hours.

Thereafter, the affecting weather systems would weaken, which would lead to change in the wind pattern from moist winds to hot and dry north-westerlies. With the reduction in moisture, pre-Monsoon activities would also take a short break.
