Several weather systems across the country are causing rain, thundershowers and dust storms in varied intensity. While Rajasthan in the western part of the country continues to witness dust storms, the northern plains includingDelhi-NCR continue to experience thundershower and dust storm activity.
The reason behind such weather in North India is an active Western Disturbance and an induced cyclonic circulation. While in East India it is due to a cyclonic circulation over Bihar and adjoining Jharkhand.
In a span of 24 hours from 8.30 am on Tuesday,Kapurthalain Punjab in North India has received 57 mm of rain whileLudhianahas recorded 12 mm of rainfall.Ranchiin Jharkhand has observed record rainfall of 58 mm. The city has also observed some hailstorm activity. In Central IndiaGwaliorhas witnessed 18 mm of rain. These rainfall figures clearly indicate that pre-monsoon activity has gained momentum and become widespread.
Meanwhile, South India is the most active pocket of pre-monsoon thundershowers. Several places in the region have recorded heavy rain on Tuesday. For instanceCoonoorin the last 24 hours, from 8.30 am on Tuesday has recorded 112 mm of rain,Kottayam100 mm,Honavar44 mm andBelgaum37 mm. The rainfall in the region is due to a well-marked cyclonic circulation in southern peninsula and adjoining sea region.
According to Skymet, these conditions are going to ease out over northern parts but will continue over East and South India. The weather activity over South India is going to be prolonged, extending northward and covering parts of Karnataka, Rayalaseema and Andhra Pradesh. Some isolated heavy rain is expected in the region in next two days.
