Pre-Monsoon surge to get active along West coast, Andaman and Northeast India

The good news is that monsoon has arrived over south Andaman and Nicobar Islands well before time today on May 15. The onset of monsoon over mainland Kerala will also be before time. Between June 1 and June 5, Monsoon usually covers entire Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Rayalaseema, most parts of Karnataka as well as Northeast India.

This year we expect Monsoon to make onset over all these States by the end of May. Heavy pre monsoon rains have already commenced over Kerala and Northeast India. Coastal and South Karnataka is next in the line of fire. Kerala will continue to get moderate to heavy showers for next few days.

Coastal parts of Karnataka will also receive moderate to heavy rain with isolated very heavy spells between May 16 and 19. These pre monsoon showers may trigger mudslide a landslide and flash floods over coastal and Southern parts of Karnataka, Uttar and Dakshin Kannada, Udupi, Mangalore, Karwar, shivamoga, Kodagu and Chikmagaluru which may also receive heavy downpour.

Heavy to very heavy rain is possible over Andaman and Nicobar Islands between 17 and 20. Northeast India will continue to get heavy spells of rain during next 3 to 4 days. According to Skymet, intense pre monsoon rains will continue over Kerala, Karnataka, interior Tamil Nadu, Andaman and Nicobar Islands as well as over Northeast India until onset of monsoon.
