Pre-Monsoon showers to lash Hyderabad once again

The month of May had started on a rainy note for Hyderabad. Light rainfall continued throughout the first week and on May 5, Hyderabad broke rain records.

The city received a whopping 75.4 mm of rain, which is the highest rainfall recorded in 24 hours in last 10 years. The all-time record of 79.3 mm (received on May 24, 1978) is also not far behind. This is unusual as the monthly average for Hyderabad is just 31.7 mm.

Friday remained dry in the “city of Nizams”. However, conditions now seem favorable for pre-Monsoon activities and we can expect scattered rain and thundershowers at some places in Telangana including Hyderabad at least for next 48 hours.

After a dry April, pre-Monsoon activities have picked up pace over many parts of the country including Telangana. For the last many days a trough is persisting from Central India to South Tamil Nadu. This trough keeps oscillating over Telangana and Marathwada. Therefore, a prolonged dry spell over Telangana may not occur and on and off showers will continue throughout the month.

On Saturday, the maximum temperature settled around 35°C in Hyderabad. Skymet predicts some rain and thundershowers during late afternoon hours which will bring down temperatures considerably.
