At present, the state of Telangana is reeling under heatwave conditions. Similar weather conditions also prevailed over Hyderabad, so much so that the mercury levels settled above the normal average.
The reason for this dry and hot weather can be credited to the absence of any significant weather system due to which rains have remained absent from the city. However, in last 24 hours, the city has recorded 1.4 mm of light rains.
Further, Skymet Weather predicts that rains and thundershowers are expected to make a show in parts of Hyderabad in the next 24 to 48 hours.
As per Skymet Weather, these showers will be due to the presence of a trough that is extending from South Madhya Maharashtra to South Interior Karnataka in lower levels. Besides, westerly winds are strengthening over Southern Peninsula. Together this will pour some rain and thundershowers over the City of Nizams during the next 24 to 48 hours.

These showers will have an impact on the temperature profile leading to drop in maximums that settled 40 degree mark, well above the normal limit.
So far in May, Hyderabad has recorded 64.3 mm of rain against the normal average rainfall of 31.7 mm. This clearly represents that the city of palaces has already surpassed its monthly average rainfall.
