Pre-Monsoon showers remained absent from most parts of the country during the month of April. Most parts of the country remained hot and dry with temperatures recording above the normal levels. So much so that several cities observed record-breaking maximums.
However, May began on a rainy note for most parts. For the past one week, many areas have been seeing good Pre-Monsoon showers. Many cities including Bangalore and Hyderabad have witnessed torrential rains in a span of 24 hours. These conditions have kept the temperatures under check, and heatwave remains abated from most regions.
Usually, Central and Peninsular India including Maharashtra, Telangana, Rayalaseema stay hot during the month of May. Also, heatwave grips parts of the Indo-Gangetic Plains resulting in sky high maximums over East and North India. But, this time, maximums are in the upper 30s in most of these areas due to the continuous Pre-Monsoon showers.
In fact, except parts of Rajasthan and Gujarat which are reeling under hot weather conditions, temperatures are close to the normal levels in most areas. Many areas have also been witnessing below normal maximums.
Now, until May 20, Pre-Monsoon showers will continue to lash most parts of the country. Rains will continue over parts of Central and Peninsular India owing to the wind discontinuity, which is currently running across the region. Cities including Hyderabad, Bangalore, Pune, and Bhopal will receive rain during this period.
The Western Disturbance will continue to give rain over the hills of North India including Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. The plains of North India will also witness some weather activity due to the system and record close to normal maximums. Heatwave will remain abated from the region for quite some time now.
Northeast India, which has been receiving fewer rains during the last few days, will witness an increase in the Pre-Monsoon activity in the coming days. Parts of East India including Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Odisha will also observe increased rainfall activity. Cities including Kolkata, Ranchi, Jamshedpur and Patna are likely to receive some rains.
Weather conditions in most of Peninsular India including Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and adjoining areas will become even better after May 20 as Monsoon currents will begin to knock doors towards the last week of May. In fact, Monsoon will make its onset over the Andaman Islands in another ten days or so.
While some areas will see hot weather conditions, which is a prominent feature during the Pre-Monsoon season, heatwave conditions will remain absent over the areas.
