Kerala has been receiving good rains for the last 24 hours. While Alappuzha received 8 mm rains, Punalur recorded 1 mm rains.

These light to moderate rains are being forecast to continue over Kerala for the coming 24 hours as well. These rains are likely to be fairly widespread and will be seen mainly in the late evening and night hours.

This rainy period will however be soon followed by a dry patch lasting a few other days.

Pre-Monsoon sets in over South Peninsula in the early March or sometimes even before this. This time however, only the extreme southern parts of South Peninsula i.e. Kerala has been receiving good rains since the onset of pre-Monsoon. Otherwise, other parts of South India including Tamil Nadu and South Interior Karnataka have been rather inconsistent in terms of rains.

Although Kerala has been running 39% rain excess as of March 23, even the state itself hasn’t been receiving very consistent rainfall. Kerala received good rains for the first ten days of March. The rainy period was followed by a rather lull one beginning March 11 and ending March 19. Light rainfall activity picked up March 20 onward.
