Updated on April 8, 2016: As reiterated by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, pre-Monsoon showers have made their appearance over Bengaluru.
The capital city of Karnataka received its first spell of Pre-Monsoon showers after remaining dry for about three weeks.
During the last 24 hours from 8:30 am on Thursday, Bengaluru received 5 mm of rain.
These rains can be attributed to a trough, which is extending from Vidarbha to Comorin area across Interior Karnataka, Rayalseema and Interior Tamil Nadu.
However, these rains have been light and patchy in nature and usually occur between late evening and early morning hours.
Now, during the next 24 hours, Bengaluru may receive more Pre-Monsoon showers owing to the system which has already given rain over the region.
These rains will bring in some marginal relief from the prevailing weather conditions in the city.
Story First Published on April 7, 2016: After remaining dry for almost last three weeks, Bengaluru is gearing up for fresh spell of pre-Monsoon rains. According to Skymet Weather, scattered light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely to lash the capital city during the next 48 hours.
Bengaluru has already been witnessing partly-cloudy sky since Wednesday after noon. In view of cloud cover, maximum temperatures have taken dip of two degrees and settled at 35°C on April 6.
This fresh spell of rain can be attributed to the north-south trough extending from parts of Maharashtra up to Kerala across South Interior Karnataka. As per Skymet Weather, this is a semi-permanent feature that keep oscillating in east-west direction.
The weather activity are likely bring slight relief from the hot weather conditions prevailing over the city for last many days. But since these rains will be of short duration, day temperatures will witness further marginal drop of one or two degrees.
Since March 18, day maximums over the city have been settling over 35°C that is above normal temperature. The temperature peaked on April 5 at 36.7°C, which was also the highest of the season so far.
The average day temperature for April settles at 34.1°C, while average night temperature is 21.8°C.
April is supposed to be one of hottest month of the year, with average rainfall of 40 mm. Weather will continue to be hot during entire month with only few spells of rain and thundershowers.
